What Is Dreamwork?
Dreamwork is a process to unravel the meaning of the dream with the dreamer. Dreams seem strange from the waking point of view, because during sleep the mind expresses itself in pictures. We do not draw pictures of our ideas when awake: we use words. Also, dreams typically speak in a language of symbols and metaphors. Dreaming metaphors & images therefore demand appreciation from the point of view of the waking state. Dream work or dream appreciation creates a bridge or a natural fit between the two states of consciousness: waking & dreaming.
Dreams & Creativity
What exactly is the role of dreams in the creative process? Can dreams inspire creative problem solving? Are exceptional creativity & brilliant problem solving available only to the chosen few? If dreaming is universal why is it that creativity is ascribed to only a few ? What is the case for linking dreams to the creative process? Such questions often remain unanswered. Although creativity is a product of conscious process it is not the product of this process alone.
There is a large part of the creative process that takes place in the unconscious. Creativity then is a two way information highway between the conscious & the unconscious mind, between literal & symbolic, between rational & intuitive & between explicit & tacit knowledge. It is well known that dreams can be a crucial resource for self-knowledge, Problem solving and creativity.
